Babylo in Cross Stitch Work
The most used thread for crocheting lace onto the edges of cross stitch towels, cushions and cloths is DMC Babylo: mercerised cotton, tightly twisted, glossy; in sizes No 10, 20 and 30, in white, ecru and colours matched to floss codes. The same thread also serves for hardanger wrapping and single-strand stitching on 6–11 ct large-count aida. This category holds the Babylo products for the cross stitch branch; the size, hook and quantity guide is on the main DMC Babylo page. For fine lace see Cordonnet Special and Special Dentelles.
Edge Lace and Aida
For towel and cushion edges No 20 with a 1.25–1.5 mm hook, for heavy cloth edges No 10 with a 1.5–1.75 mm hook; pick the same DMC code as the cross stitch motif in Babylo to match the colour. On aida, No 10 on 11 ct and No 20 on 14 ct give single-strand full coverage; use a blunt size 22 needle. Half a ball of No 20 is enough for a towel edge, 1 ball for a cushion border. Washes up to 60°C; starch the edge lace.
