Thin Felt for Embroidery

Thin 1 mm felt is both ground and finishing material in embroidery: brooch and appliqué motifs are stitched straight onto felt, the backs of finished hoops are closed with it, and pincushions and tiny toys are sewn from it. Felt Embroidery and Use

Felt edges do not fray, so no overlocking: cut the motif and work stem stitch, blanket stitch and French knots with 2–3 strands of floss and a size 7 embroidery needle. To back a hoop, cut felt to the inner diameter and fix it with ladder stitch or fabric glue. 1 mm felt cuts cleanly with scissors; see the Felt category for 3 mm. Do not wash, wipe with a damp cloth.
