Eco Vita in Wool Embroidery

Wool embroidery, known as crewel, is famous for botanical and country designs worked in wool on linen or dense cotton; Eco Vita is the plant-dyed organic thread for this technique. Its matte texture and natural palette suit vintage, Scandinavian and modern styles. This category lists the Eco Vita colours for embroidery; the full guide and colour card are in DMC Eco Vita.

Stitches, Needle and Fabric

Stem stitch, long-and-short, chain, fishbone leaves and French knots work best in Eco Vita; a single strand outlines, dense satin stitch fills. Use a size 3–5 sharp chenille needle in a 15–20 cm wooden hoop on linen, calico or wool fabric. Wool thins with friction, so cut 35 cm lengths. One 16 m skein embroiders a small flower; a medium design in a 15 cm hoop takes 4–6 skeins. Combine it with DMC pearl cotton for glossy highlights.
