Linen and Evenweave for Embroidery
Linen is the classic fabric of both surface embroidery and counted work: its dense weave carries the stitches and its natural texture gives the finished piece character. This category carries Zweigart Linda 27 ct, Brittney Lugana 28 ct, DMC linen evenweave 28 ct and 36 ct natural linen (180 cm wide) in white, natural, grey and colours, by the metre or cut. All linens are in Linen.
Which Count and Technique?
Surface embroidery and hoop art suit 27–28 ct, blackwork and counted embroidery 28–32 ct, fine cross stitch 32–36 ct linen; counted over 2 threads, 28 ct equals 14 ct Aida. Wash and press linen before stitching so it does not shrink later, and overlock the edges. A clip frame or scroll frame gives even tension.
