Printed Canvases and Everything to Stitch Them

Tapestry (needlepoint) is worked in half cross or tent stitch over a printed canvas until the picture is covered in wool. Hobianna stocks French SEG de Paris and Margot de Paris canvases, European Gobelin and Diamant prints, Hello children's tapestry kits and Riolis wool kits, together with DMC Tapestry Wool in 380+ colours, six-strand Mouliné, thread sets and organizers. See Tapestry Canvases and Tapestry Threads.

Frames, Stands and Needles for Long Projects

A 45×60 cm canvas takes months, so comfort matters: scroll frames, Nurge floor and seat stands, size 18–20 tapestry needles, needle minders and thread boxes are in Hoops and Stands, Needles and Tools.

Planning a Tapestry

Canvases are sold without yarn; the colour list on each product page tells you which DMC wool or floss numbers to buy. Allow 40–60 colours and 150–250 skeins for a 45×60 cm picture, and choose wool for a matte, full finish or floss for sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the yarn included with printed canvases?

No. SEG, Margot, Gobelin and Diamant canvases are sold without yarn; kits from Riolis and Hello include everything.

Which stitch do I use?

Half cross (tent) stitch is standard; basketweave gives a more durable surface for cushions and chairs.

How do I finish a tapestry?

Block it damp on a board, then frame it or have it made into a cushion; we stock wooden frames and stretcher bars.
