Aida Cloth Types

Aida is woven in square blocks with clear holes, designed for cross stitch; counting and needling are easy, so it suits every level. This category offers Zweigart and DMC Aida in 11, 14, 16 and 18 count, in white, ecru, black and colours, 140–160 cm wide by the metre or pre-cut. Hobianna's laser-cut wooden Aida blanks for cross stitch on wood are listed here too. All Aida is in Aida.

Which Count to Choose?

Count is the number of squares per inch. 11 ct has large squares for children and beginners; 14 ct is the common standard; 16 and 18 ct give finer, more detailed and smaller results. Finished size = stitch count ÷ count × 2.54 cm. Cut 5–7 cm larger than the design on each side; on 14 ct use 2–3 strands of floss and a size 24 needle.

Why Zweigart over cheap Aida?

Even weave, no thread slippage and no shrinkage in the wash.
