What Is Aida?

Aida is woven in square blocks with clear holes and made for cross stitch; every square takes one cross, so counting and needling are easy. This category gathers every Aida type at Hobianna: Zweigart and DMC Aida in 11, 14, 16 and 18 count in white, ecru, black and colours, Hobianna's perforated wooden Aida and cuttable plastic canvas. Fabric Aida is also listed in Cross Stitch Aida; all fabrics in Fabrics and Aida.

How to Choose a Count

Count is the number of squares per inch: 11 ct is large-holed for children and beginners; 14 ct is the standard and most common; 16–18 ct is fine and detailed. Finished size = stitch count ÷ count × 2.54 cm, so 140 stitches on 14 ct make 25 cm. Cut 5–7 cm larger than the design on each side and overlock the edges. On 14 ct use 2–3 strands of floss and a size 24 blunt needle; Zweigart's even weave and no shrinkage in the wash make the difference in quality.
