Cordonnet Special in Cross Stitch Work

For needle lace on the edges of cross stitch towels and cloths, hardanger wrapping and cutwork, the most suitable DMC thread is Cordonnet Special: 6-cord hard-twisted mercerised cotton, No 20–100, white, B5200 and ecru, 20 g balls. The hard twist holds the knot and shows wrapping stitches flat. This category holds the Cordonnet products for the cross stitch branch; the size, technique and quantity guide is on the main DMC Cordonnet Special page. For coloured lace see Special Dentelles, for heavy lace Babylo.

Size and Use

Needle lace on a towel edge in No 40–50 with a size 9–10 lace needle; hardanger wrapping and filling in No 20–30 on 22 ct fabric (an alternative to pearl cotton No 8), No 40 on 25–28 ct; dense overcasting on cutwork edges in No 30–40. Not used on the cross stitch ground; it is for edges and lace. One 20 g ball is enough for a towel edge or a hardanger napkin. Starch the finished lace; washes up to 60°C.
