DMC Satin in Cross Stitch

For anyone who wants a silk sheen in cross stitch, DMC Satin is a 60-colour rayon floss whose codes are the S equivalents of the floss codes; S321 is used in place of 321 on the chart. A whole motif can be stitched in Satin, or the ground in floss and areas such as flowers and water accented in Satin. This category holds the Satin colours for cross stitch; the full guide, colour card and comparison are on the DMC Satin page. For a metallic sparkle see Etoile and Light Effects.

Strands, Needle and Stitching

2 strands on 14 ct aida, 1 on 16–18 ct, 3 on 11 ct; separate and recombine the strands. As rayon is slippery, cut 35 cm lengths, fix the thread in the needle with a knot and work with conditioner or slight damp; use a blunt size 24 needle. When the top leg of every cross lies the same way the sheen reflects evenly. An 8 m skein works about 250 stitches on 14 ct; quantity maths is the same as floss.
