The Standard Thread of Cross Stitch: DMC 117

Almost every cross stitch chart is keyed to DMC 117 floss codes: 6-strand, 8 m, double mercerised cotton thread in 500 colours. This category lists every colour of DMC 117 for the cross stitch branch by code number; search the code on the chart (310, 321, 3865, B5200 and so on) and add it straight to the basket. The full guide to the range, the colour card and all DMC floss types are on the main DMC Floss page, the colour code list on the DMC 117 page.

Strands, Needle and Quantity by Count

3 strands on 11 ct aida, 2 on 14 ct, 1–2 on 16–18 ct, 2 on 28 ct evenweave (over 2 threads); back stitch one strand fewer. The needle is a blunt size 24 for 14 ct, 26 for 16–18 ct. An 8 m skein works about 250 stitches with 2 strands on 14 ct; work out skeins from the symbol count in the key and buy one extra of the background and main colours, from the same dye lot. Separate the strands one by one and recombine; cut 40–45 cm lengths. For variegated and shaded options see DMC Variegated and Color Variations, for glossy and metallic Satin and Etoile.
