Mini Ball on the Cross Stitch Edge
To work needle lace on the edge of a stitched towel, scarf or cloth in the same colour as the cross stitch motif, the DMC Special Dentelles No 80 mini ball is used: 5 g, very fine, tightly twisted mercerised cotton in more than 60 colours identical to the floss codes. Pick the DMC code of the motif in the mini ball and the edge lace matches exactly. This category holds the mini ball colours for the cross stitch branch; the technique, needle and quantity guide is on the main DMC Mini Ball page. For white-ecru and heavier lace use Cordonnet Special.
Needle, Quantity and Starch
A size 11–12 long lace needle and 50 cm of thread; on a towel edge work a single row of chain first, then flower or picot lace on top. One ball of the main colour for a towel edge, 3–4 colours for flowered lace. Starch the finished lace with sugar water or spray starch; wash the towel at 40°C and iron the lace from the back. Not used on the cross stitch ground; it is for edges and trims.
