How to Choose a Hook Size

The size is the shaft thickness in millimetres and matches the yarn label: amigurumi 2–3 mm, summer cotton 3.5–4.5 mm, winter yarns 5–6 mm, lace 0.6–1.5 mm. In amigurumi a hook half a size smaller than recommended gives a firm fabric.
