Metallic Threads for Embroidery

Stars, crowns, jewels, lettering and outlines get their sparkle from metallic thread. This category gathers every metallic DMC thread in the embroidery branch: DMC metallic embroidery thread (light gold, light silver), spooled single-strand DMC Diamant, soft cotton-metallic DMC Etoile, fully metallic 6-strand Light Effects and the thick Pearl Metallic Skein. Which Metallic for Which Stitch?

Stem stitch and outlines: Diamant single or Light Effects 1–2 strands; satin and filling: Etoile 2–3 strands, stitched like floss; French knots: Etoile or the pearl metallic skein; couching and goldwork: Diamant and the pearl skein. Cut metallics 30–35 cm, knot them in the needle and lay them flat; use a large-eye size 5–7 embroidery needle. Stitch metallic areas last and press from the back on low heat.
