Tulle for Tel Kırma Embroidery

Tel kırma (Bartın work) is the traditional Turkish embroidery in which flat silver or gold strip is broken through a stiff tulle; the countable holes keep the motifs even. This category sells Etuval marquisette tel kırma tulle 295 cm wide by the metre, wide enough to cut a prayer rug, wrapping cloth or tablecloth in one piece. All tulles are in Tel Kırma Tulle, strips in Tel Kırma Wire, needles in Tel Kırma Needles, other fabrics in Other Fabrics.

How Tel Kırma Is Worked

The tulle is stretched drum-tight in a frame; the strip is threaded through the double-eyed needle, passed through a hole and broken at every stitch to lock it, and the motif is counted out. Beginners start with coarse tulle, thick strip and a simple border; a scarf edge takes 0.5 m, a wrapping cloth 1 m, a prayer rug 1.5 m of tulle. The finished piece is never ironed: steam it lightly from the back and dry it in the frame; marquisette is wiped, not washed.
