Yarn Types for Amigurumi

In amigurumi the yarn defines the character's look: tight, even stitches come from cotton and cotton-acrylic blends, a soft plush look from chenille and velvet. Which Yarn with Which Hook?

Cotton and Jeans-type yarns take a 2.5–3 mm hook; chenille and velvet 3.5–4 mm. Use a hook half a size smaller than the label recommends so the filling does not show. A 15 cm character needs about 50 g (2 balls of 25 g chenille), double for large ones. Stitches are hard to count in chenille, so a stitch marker is a must.
