Blunt-Tip Aida Needles

A tapestry needle has a blunt tip and a large eye: it slips through the holes of the Aida without splitting the fabric thread and carries 2–3 strands of floss easily. Here you will find DMC size 24 and 26 needles (packs of 6), gold-plated DMC needles (packs of 4), Milward tapestry needles in sizes 14, 16, 18–22 and 24 and assorted packs. All needles are in Aida and Tapestry Needles.

Which Size?

The higher the number, the finer the needle. Size 24 is standard for 14 ct Aida; use 22 on 11 ct, 26 on 16–18 ct and evenweave, and Milward 18–22 for heavy canvas and wool. Gold-plated needles glide better and do not tarnish, so they are preferred for long projects. The needle should pass without forcing or stretching the holes.

Can I cross stitch with a sewing needle?

A sharp tip splits the Aida threads and spoils the crosses; use a blunt tapestry needle.
