Aida and Tapestry Needles

A tapestry needle has a blunt tip and a large eye, so it passes the holes without splitting the fabric thread: it is the needle for cross stitch, counted embroidery, blackwork and hardanger. Needle Size by Count

The higher the number, the finer the needle: 6–8 ct plastic canvas No 14–18, 11 ct No 20–22, 14 ct No 24, 16–18 ct Aida and 28–32 ct evenweave No 26, 36 ct linen No 28. The right needle passes without friction and does not fray the thread; go one size larger for more strands. Assorted packs are economical for stitchers who work on several counts.
