Broder Special in Embroidery

The thread of traditional whitework, monograms, Richelieu and overcast edges is DMC Broder Special: 4 plies in one twist, non-divisible, softly glossy mercerised cotton, No 25 in 32 m skeins, in white, B5200, ecru and floss-coded colours. It lies flat in satin stitch, draws a crisp line in stem stitch and does not fray on cut edges; modern embroidery uses it single for fine outlines. This category holds the Broder Special products for the embroidery branch; the full guide is in DMC Broder Special. For a matte, velvety fill see DMC Floche, for a glossy option DMC Satin.

Stitches, Needle and Fabric

Satin fill and monograms in one strand (chain padding first, satin over it), stem and backstitch single, Richelieu edges in dense overcast with needle-woven bars, French knots with 2–3 wraps. Use a size 7–9 sharp embroidery needle and 40–45 cm lengths on linen, batiste or calico in a taut hoop. One skein stitches a monogram or a small Richelieu motif; wash up to 60 °C and press from the back.
