DMC Floss in Hand Embroidery
In surface and modern embroidery the thread weight changes with the stitch, and DMC floss gives that flexibility with its 6 strands used in any number. The category carries the 117 range in 500 colours, silk-look Satin, Coloris and Color Variations with several colours in one skein, tone-shifting Variegated and untwisted matte Floche. For every range, colour card and storage guide see DMC Floss.
Strands by Stitch
Use 1–2 strands for stem stitch and fine outlines, 3–6 for satin stitch and filling, 2–3 for French knots and 2 for lettering. Coloris gives natural colour shifts in leaves and flowers from one thread; Satin adds shine where the light falls. Choose a size 5–7 embroidery needle for 3–6 strands on heavy fabric and size 9–10 for 1–2 strands on fine fabric.
