Broder Special in Hardanger and Drawn Thread

The non-divisible thread of counted work is DMC Broder Special: 4 plies in one twist, softly glossy, flat-lying mercerised cotton, No 25 in 32 m skeins, in white, B5200, ecru and floss-coded colours. It serves hardanger wrapping and needle weaving, drawn thread and Richelieu edge overcasting, and blackwork and counted embroidery on 28 ct evenweave. This category holds the Broder Special products for the cross stitch branch; the full guide is in DMC Broder Special. For satin blocks see pearl cotton No 5–8, for matte fill Floche.

Count, Needle and Technique

In hardanger on 22 ct fabric, wrapping and filling take No 25 and satin blocks pearl cotton No 5; on 25–28 ct wrapping takes No 25 and blocks No 8. In drawn thread, the edge to be cut is overcast densely at 2 mm intervals. Use a size 24–26 blunt needle, a size 7 sharp for overcasting, and 40–45 cm lengths. One skein covers a hardanger napkin edge or a small drawn-thread motif; wash up to 60 °C and press from the back.
