Lace and Needle Lace Threads
Lace threads are tightly twisted, mercerised fine cottons used for crochet lace, needle lace (oya), hardanger and edgings. This category carries DMC Babylo (sizes 10–50, lace and tablecloths), DMC Cordonnet Special (firmly twisted, for needle lace and sturdy lace) and DMC Special Dentelles (size 80, very fine lace) in wide colour cards. All are in Lace Yarn.
Size and Hook
The higher the number, the finer the thread: size 10 with a 1.5–1.75 mm hook for tablecloths and heavy lace; 20–30 with 1–1.25 mm for scarf edgings and fine lace; 50–80 with a 0.6–0.9 mm steel hook or a needle for needle lace and miniature work. Mercerised thread keeps its colour and shape in the wash, and finished lace is starched to stiffen it.
