Pearl Cotton in Tapestry

Tapestry is traditionally stitched in wool, but on fine canvas, small pieces and work that wants shine, pearl cotton gives a finer, smoother, more lustrous surface; being single-strand it stitches fast and never fuzzes. This category holds the DMC pearl cotton sizes suited to tapestry; the full guide and colour card are in DMC Pearl Cotton. Wool is in DMC Wool Skeins.

Size and Quantity by Canvas

No 5 covers 10–12 ct printed canvas fully; No 8 is for 14 ct and petit point. Use a size 20–22 blunt needle and keep the half-cross direction constant, since glossy thread shows any change. One skein of No 5 covers about 12×12 cm on 12 ct; count skeins by the symbol totals on the key and buy extra background. DMC codes match floss and wool conversion charts.
