Charted Cross Stitch Books

A cross stitch book gathers far more charts than a single magazine: English titles such as Countryside, Summer Holidays and Happy Days Cross Stitch bring dozens of country, holiday and everyday motifs, while Turkish books cover towel, prayer rug and baby charts. Charts come as colour symbol grids with a DMC key. Monthly charts are in Cross Stitch Magazine, imports in Foreign Language Publications.

Working from a Book

Charts are usually sized for 14 ct Aida or 28 ct evenweave; convert the stitch count at 14 stitches per 2.54 cm. Use 2 strands of DMC floss and a size 24 tapestry needle. A book is a motif archive you return to for years; alphabet and border pages serve towel and gift projects again and again.

Can charts be enlarged?

Photocopy them larger; the stitch count stays the same, fabric count sets the finished size.
