From Chart to Finished Piece
Counted cross stitch follows a symbol chart on evenly woven fabric. Beginners do best with a kit on 14 count Aida; experienced stitchers move to 16–18 count Aida, 28 count evenweave or linen worked over two threads. Finished pieces are washed, pressed and displayed in a hoop, wooden frame or as home textile; see Patterns and Magazines and Books for new designs.

Two strands on 14 count Aida, three on 11 count, one or two on 16–18 count; most kits state the strand count on the chart.
