Evenweave for Counted Embroidery

Evenweave is woven from single threads at an even count, which makes it the fabric for thread-counted techniques: blackwork, hardanger, counted satin stitch and cross stitch. Which Count for Which Technique?

For blackwork and counted embroidery 28 ct (over 2 threads equal to 14 ct Aida), for hardanger 22–28 ct, for fine, elegant work 32 ct Belfast; surface embroidery stitches comfortably on dense 27–28 ct. The edges fray, so overlock or tape them, and a clip frame gives even tension. A batik ground makes the unstitched area part of the design.
