Floss in Punch Needle

Beside thick wool punch, fine work such as facial details, lettering and miniature panels is punched in floss with the fine needle. This category lists the 500 colours of the DMC 117 range plus Satin and colour-changing series from the punch angle; on the loop side floss gives a denser, velvety texture. For all DMC floss families and the usage guide see DMC Floss, for wool punch yarns Punch Needle Threads.

Which Needle and Fabric?

Use all 6 strands, unseparated, with the fine (small) punch needle; the thread must flow freely through the channel. Choose dense cotton, linen or fine punch cloth; the coarse weave of monk's cloth is too loose for fine thread. Keep the fabric very tight in a locking frame and set the loop height to the shortest step. One skein covers a small motif; add skeins for filled areas.
