Tapestry Wool in Punch Needle

DMC Tapestry Wool is the most used punch needle thread: the 4-ply wool grips the loop, gives a lofty, dense surface, covers every palette with more than 380 colours and the 8 m skein is economical. It is a perfect match for the medium punch needle, looser with the thick needle and not for the fine needle. This category lists the wool colours for punch; the full guide and tapestry use are in DMC Wool Skeins. For an organic, plant-dyed option see DMC Eco Vita, for fine detail pearl cotton.

Needle, Fabric and Quantity

Use the medium tip of an adjustable punch needle on monk's cloth or dense punch cloth stretched drum-tight in a 15–25 cm frame, with loop length set to 2–4 mm. One 8 m skein fills about 2.5×2.5 cm: a 15 cm hoop panel needs 15–25 skeins, a 20 cm panel 30–40; buy extra background. Seal the finished back with fabric glue or interfacing and do not wash. For the thick needle and faster coverage use the chunky yarns in Punch Needle Threads.
