Color Variations in Tapestry
When wide areas such as sky, sea, clouds and mountains in tapestry pictures are stitched in Color Variations, natural shading is achieved with one thread: 6-strand floss with soft tone transitions within one colour family, 4000 series 60 colours, 8 m. It gives the best result in fine-canvas tapestries stitched with floss. This category holds the Color Variations colours for tapestry; the full guide to the range is on the DMC Color Variations page. For solid floss see Tapestry Floss, for wool DMC Tapestry Wool.
Canvas, Strands and Stitching
6 strands on 10–12 ct canvas, 4 on 14 ct, 2 in petit point; keep the tent stitch direction fixed and complete each row one at a time so the tone transition flows. Combine the strands by pulling from the same end and start the new length from where the last tone ended. Blunt size 20–24 needle, 40–45 cm lengths. One skein covers about 5×5 cm on 12 ct; for a wide sky buy the skeins from the same dye lot.
