Hoop Types

Which Hoop for Which Technique?

For cross stitch and modern embroidery a 15–25 cm screw wooden hoop is standard and doubles as a display frame. Punch needle needs a frame that does not let the fabric slip: the Calin clip frame is designed for exactly this, a locking plastic punch hoop works for small round pieces. Tapestry, prayer rugs and large panels go in a clip frame or quilting hoop that leaves no mark. Magnetic hoops serve narrow towel borders, miniature hoops pendant and ornament sizes. Choose a hoop 3–5 cm larger than the design.
