Diamant in Tapestry

For crowns, jewels, swords, armour and light lines in tapestry pictures, DMC Diamant is the most durable metallic thread: single-strand, non-divisible and on a 35 m spool, so it stitches among the wool without breaking. This category holds the Diamant colours for tapestry; the full guide and comparison are in DMC Diamant. For wide shimmering areas use Light Effects or Etoile.

Canvas, Strands and Method

Use 3–4 threads together for half cross on 10–12 ct canvas, 2 on 14 ct and 1 in petit point; to reach wool height, mix Diamant with 2 strands of floss. The more efficient method is couching: lay Diamant on the surface and catch it down with tiny stitches in floss, giving swords and crown edges a straight gold line. Use a size 20–22 large-eye blunt needle and 35–40 cm lengths. One spool covers all the metallic accents of a medium tapestry.
