What Is DMC Diamant?

DMC Diamant is a single-strand, non-divisible metallic embroidery thread on a 35 m spool; codes start with D (D3852 dark gold, D3821 light gold, D168 silver, D301 copper, D310 black, D5200 white, D140 silver-black, D315 antique pink, D316 lilac, D699 green). With polyester metallic fibre wrapped around a cotton core it is stronger and smoother than Light Effects: no breaking, no fuzz. Slightly thicker than one strand of floss, it draws a flat, sparkling line the weight of 2 strands. This page gathers every Diamant colour at Hobianna; the Diamant categories under Embroidery, Tapestry and All Products link here.

What to Make with Diamant

Cross stitch: stars, snowflakes and jewel details single on 16–18 ct and doubled on 14 ct, or 1 strand scattered over floss for sparkle. Embroidery and goldwork: gold outlines, lettering and Ottoman-style motifs in stem stitch, backstitch and couching; French knots give a jewel effect. Hardanger and blackwork: fine metallic accents in wrapping and filling. Cards and ornaments: stitched alone on stitchable cards and Christmas ornaments, and with bobbin thread in machine embroidery.

Stitching tips

Cut Diamant straight from the spool at 35–40 cm. Use a size 24 blunt or size 7 sharp large-eye needle, knot the thread in the eye, do not pull tight and lay stitches flat. In couching, lay Diamant on the fabric and catch it down with tiny stitches in one strand of floss, the most economical use of the spool. One spool outlines a whole hoop panel in gold or stitches about 700 crosses on 14 ct.

Diamant, Light Effects and Etoile

Diamant is single-strand, spooled and the most durable metallic, for outlines and lines. DMC Light Effects is 6-strand, 8 m skeins and the brightest; DMC Etoile is a soft cotton-core shimmer. For a thick gold or silver skein see Pearl Metallic Skein.
