Pearl Metallic Skeins in Cross Stitch

Cross stitch that wants a thick, raised metallic motif uses the DMC pearl metallic skein: pearl cotton No 5 weight, single strand, gold 5282 and silver 5283. It covers fully on Christmas bells, stars, crowns, wedding and engagement panels, 11 ct Aida and towel borders. This category holds the metallic skeins for cross stitch; the full guide is in DMC Pearl Metallic Skein. For finer metallics see Light Effects and Etoile.

Count, Needle and Quantity

Single strand gives full coverage on 11 ct and a raised, bold motif on 14 ct; it is too thick for 16 ct and finer. Use a size 22 large-eye blunt needle and 35–40 cm lengths; lay stitches flat, do not pull tight and stitch metallic areas last. One skein covers about 120 crosses on 11 ct; 1–2 skeins do for a row of metallic motifs on a towel border. Since it sits higher than floss, reserve it for the areas meant to stand out.
