DMC Variegated in Tapestry

In fine-canvas tapestries stitched with floss, leaves, grass, water and shaded ground areas are toned with one thread using DMC variegated floss: the 48–125 series, two or three tones of one colour, 6 strands and 8 m. This category holds the variegated codes for tapestry; the full guide to the range is on the DMC Variegated page. For a long, soft transition see Color Variations, for solid colours Tapestry Floss.

Canvas, Strands and Stitching

6 strands on 10–12 ct canvas, 4 on 14 ct, 2 in petit point; keep the tent stitch direction fixed and complete the rows one at a time. Combine the strands by pulling from the same end. Blunt size 20–24 needle, 40–45 cm lengths. One skein covers about 5×5 cm on 12 ct; buy the skeins for one area from the same dye lot. If you see a 48–125 code in the key, variegated thread is required and cannot be swapped for a solid.
