Pearl Metallic Skeins in Tapestry

For crowns, jewels, goblets and frame lines in tapestry pictures, the one metallic thread that sits at the same height as wool is the DMC pearl metallic skein: pearl cotton No 5 weight, single strand, gold 5282 and silver 5283. This category holds the metallic skeins for tapestry; the full guide is in DMC Pearl Metallic Skein. For finer, wider shimmer use Light Effects or Etoile.

Canvas, Needle and Stitching

A single strand covers 10–12 ct printed canvas fully in half cross; it sits raised on 14 ct and is too thick for petit point. Use a size 18–20 large-eye blunt needle and 35–40 cm lengths; keep the half-cross direction the same as the wool and stitch metallic areas last. One skein covers about 4×4 cm on 12 ct; 1–2 skeins do for the crown and jewel accents of a medium tapestry. Steam the finished piece from the back on low heat.
