Nurge Yo-Yo Maker

A yo-yo (Suffolk puff) is a small fabric rosette made by gathering the edge of a circle of fabric, used on patchwork quilts, cushions, bags, hair clips and brooches. The Nurge yo-yo maker clamps the fabric between two plates and guides an even running stitch through its holes, so every yo-yo comes out the same size and neat. This category carries Nurge yo-yo makers in several sizes. Fabrics are in Patchwork Fabric, threads in Sewing Threads, other aids in Other Tools.

How to Make a Yo-Yo

Place the fabric between the two plates and trim the excess; sew a running stitch through the holes, open the tool, pull the thread to gather and knot. A yo-yo takes 2–3 minutes, and a 5 cm yo-yo needs a 10 cm circle. Sewn together they make covers and runners, singly they trim cushions and bags, and with a button in the centre they become flowers. Fine cotton gathers most neatly.
