Patchwork and Quilting Fabrics

This page gathers every patchwork fabric at Hobianna: 100% cotton poplin in roses, dots, checks, stripes and solids by the metre. Poplin is fine, densely woven and easy to press; it gives neat seam allowances in patchwork blocks and suits quilts, bags, cushions, appliqué and baby blankets. The print-mixing guide is in Patchwork Fabric under Sewing, patchwork books in Sewing & Patchwork, all fabrics in Fabrics and Aida.

Choosing Fabric for Patchwork

A project mixes 3–5 prints: one large (floral), one medium (check or stripe), one small (dots) and a solid keep the balance. Wash and press before cutting; use a 6 mm seam, a size 80 needle and cotton or polyester thread. Buying many prints in 0.25 m cuts is economical; a baby quilt takes 1.5–2 m in total, a cushion 0.5 m. The same poplins serve yo-yos and appliqué.
