Punch Needle Types
A punch needle is a hollow needle that pushes yarn through the back of the fabric to form loops on the front; its thickness is chosen by yarn weight and its setting by loop height. This category carries the Hello 2.2 mm punch needle, the Nurge wooden-handle fine punch needle (1.2, 1.6 and 2.2 mm tips), KnitPro and Nazarone adjustable punch needle sets and the Nurge threader. Branch listings are in Punch Needles under Punch Needle; all needles in Needles.
Which Needle for Which Yarn?
The fine needle (1.2–2.2 mm) takes floss and fine cotton for detailed work on dense fabric; the medium needle (3–4 mm) 50 g cotton and Jeans-type yarns; the thick needle (5–6 mm) wool, Gazzal Pareo and tufting yarns on Monk's Cloth 7 ct. Adjustable sets give several tips and loop settings in one body, the most practical choice for beginners. Yarn should flow freely through the channel and the needle enters the fabric upright.
