Hand Sewing Needles

A sewing needle is sharp with a small eye, and the higher the number the finer it is. Needle Size by Fabric

Heavy fabric, denim and felt No 3–5; cotton, linen and general sewing No 6–8; fine fabric, silk and lining No 9–11. Long sharps for basting and running stitch, short betweens for patchwork and slip stitch, quilting needles for thick layers. Assorted packs are economical across fabrics; store needles dry in a pincushion.
